Music has been an important of my life for many years. I really enjoy being a Raleigh based music and band photographer especially when the music is rooted in hard rock and heavy metal. I was immersed in this type of music in my youth.
This past Saturday I attended the 8th annual Ray Price Capital City Bike Fest in downtown Raleigh, NC. Besides checking out all the activities, my main goal was to capture the “Shoot To Thrill” all-female* AC/DC rock band playing on the main stage. My good friend and Driver band lead singer Stacey Winn was filling in as one of the two lead singers for the show. Stacey is well known for her “AC/DC-esque” voice while performing AC/DC covers in the Driver band. I knew that she would be a perfect fit to work with the talented “Shoot To Thrill” band members.
As some of you are aware, I live in a house full of women and strongly believe what I preach to my kids. Women can do anything that a man can do including rocking your socks off. My 10 year daughter Sophia is already on her way to do just that by taking guitar lessons for a year now. I can not wait until the next “all ages” show by either “Shoot To Thrill” or the Driver band so both of my girls can rock beside me. There is no question that these women can rock!
Here is the rock solid rhythm section with Pam on bass and Susan on rhythm guitar.
Brenna is belting it out as rhythm section continues to roll! Brenna sure does have a bunch of energy!
Eat your heart out Angus Young, Meg is one rocking lead guitarist. This band is not a gimmick, they are the real deal! They know how to have fun on stage and pull the audience into the mix.
Pam and Susan can handle the backup vocals too!
Additionally, Susan is the only guitarist in the Viva La Venus band which I saw previously when they played with Driver and Cirkus a little while ago. You can find that performance images in the Viva La Venus gallery from the Southland ballroom on my gallery web site. A very well rounded band member, she is helping out here with the background vocals.
In my LBK (Life before Kids) years, I played bass guitar in a few local band in the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area so I have a soft spot for bass players. Pam does an awesome job keeping the low end on track!
Brenna is one of the lead singers for the show. I do not think you want to mess with her too much! Great energy and passion used to ignite the crowd!
She has some fun with the band members too!
Well, here is Stacey Winn. What can I say? She is veteran lead singer with over 30 years of experience and knows how to do her thing. She is one of the coolest, friendly, and positive person that I know and she sings from her big heart. I am proud to call her my friend! The torn jeans is a nice look for her and brings back memories of my college days.
She always keeps things fun for everyone at the show too! I love Meg’s smile!
Well here is the *(asterisk) to the all female AC/DC claim above. Mr. Jason Patterson is a drummer extraordinaire. He plays with multiple bands in the area and is always fun to watch.
It was time for the “You Shook Me All Night Long” audience participation at the conclusion of the show. The band pulled up what seemed like 1000s of women from the audience to help sing this classic rock song.
Yes, a couple dudes showed up too. Shoot To Thrill is an equal opportunity party band.
The entire set of images can be found in Shoot To Thrill photo gallery on my gallery site.
